Lost our air conditioner in the thunderstorm last night, what you don't see in this photo here is the fan blower .... but we did get a new one by late afternoon ..... whew. The new fan blower now has a surge protector .... damn .... how do you know these things until they happen???? A fan blower motor with a surge protector???
Here's a photo of the Fox that found one of our rock outcroppings a comfortable place to take a rest last night. I was BBQ'ing hamburgers and talking to Ellie on the phone (before the air conditioner killing storm) last night when this fox came by and curled up on a warm rock. She's so cute and often comes by in the morning but I haven't been able to get a good shot of her .... still ... this has a lot of zoom on it so the quality isn't so great but you can still see her sweet face ....
I don't remember the particulars but there is a surge protector that you can add to your house that protects the whole house. I think it costs something like $500.00. I have it in my mind to look into sometime when I feel plush.
ReplyDeleteLove pictures of all your wildlife; your really fortunate. Being close to the river maybe you will see racoons and mink. How about having a couple of chickens for me; I really miss my chickens.
The fox is beautiful. You have found the perfect spot to live. Jody has one of those whole house surge protectors on her house. I don't know the details but I think the electric company installed it for her after the underground wire fire at her house. Either that or Lorraine had it installed previously and it is what saved her electrical stuff. As you can see I am not well-informed on this story. If you do find that a family of raccoons decides to take up residence you will need to have a great sense of humor. They are so much fun to watch, can be very dangerous and can get into whatever they wish to get into. In Washington, a family feasted on my koi pond by throwing rocks into the pool all night long until they could sit on the rocks and dine on my exotic, expensive fish. It would have been cheaper to take them to dinner at Anthony's Seafood Restaurant for surf n turf. I think they can even work combo locks. They can get into anything! Having one of them go after you will put the fear of God into you, that is for sure. They can be nasty.
ReplyDeleteI'd certainly never heard of a "whole house" surge protector but it sure makes sense. Throughout the house I have 4 $50 surge protectors for the computers and TV's but never thought about the air conditioner. Well .... the old motor has a 10 year warranty and it was 10 years 9 months old (figures) so the new motor now also has a 10 year warranty but it has the added surge protector.
ReplyDeleteBobbie .... I think there was a raccoon in the carport last night .... it got into the recycle bin because I didn't seal the lid ... must have liked the smell of beer :) Very smart they are to build a koi feeding platform ... guess I'll cancel my koi pond plans :) I got a good laugh over the taking them to Anthony's .... thanks :)
And Jean .... I loved my chickens when I had my 20 acre ranch but I'm not sure about it here ... I think I'd have to install an air conditioner in the chicken coop .... along with a Whole Chicken Coop Surge Protector.
When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, the hospital was the ramp-like ones (individual long old wooden buildings)-- at night the raccoons would gather on the little porches outside the nurses' stations and sit there just waiting to scare you off. I would go to work at night and have to shoo them off the little porch so I could get in the building--they were not that excited about moving but after much persuasion on my part, they would finally scatter. One night they wouldn't move for anything so I yelled in to one of my corpsmen and asked him to come to my rescue--we had many laughs about that.
