Crates, Fireworks and Rain

So I decided I really needed some old wooden crates to put in this corner ....

I knew just the place to go where I was sure I would find some really old wooden soda pop crates .....

And sure enough I hit paydirt .... but at a price .... they came complete with 50 years of dirt, grime, mold and some recent spiders. So I scrubbed them down in the driveway and set them out to dry .... Lea followed me in the driveway to bleach out some old chairs that she got out of her mothers garage attic but she got caught in a storm ..... you can't tell in this photo but she's soaking wet and smiling :)

Maybe this shows how hard it was raining ....

So here's the crates before I moved them back outside after the rain stopped ..... they're kinda stinky when wet

On the way home from the "Dear Crossing" (that's the place where I got the crates) we went into Hardy to go the the grocery store and saw this kinda big top tent set up near the river and upon closer looking we saw the word "Fireworks" on a banner. I couldn't turn around fast enough .... I love it .... we get to have fireworks in our backyard! We're really excited. Remember these big kits that you used to droll over when you were a kid? ....

Well .... we're still just drooling. We're going to stick to the stuff that doesn't fly into the air .... we kinda like the forest next to us and the roof on our house so we'll play safe with the dangerous toys. There's also going to be a fireworks show on Lake Thunderbird which we can walk to so we will probably also be doing that. Maybe I'll even have some photos :)

  1. Sounds like a good day. As usual, I am jealous. I love poking around junk stores.

  2. Then you would really love this place! A lot of stuff with cheap price tags. I should take some photos of the other stuff we got today .... very 50's and very funky. The guy that owns the place remembered Lea and I from when we were there in March .... he gave us each a wooden nickel and that became sort of good luck charm for me .... something about Arkansas to hold onto when I was finishing up my time at SMR.

  3. Not only did I love the store but the rain!! By all means, take more pictures of the 50's stuff--that would be neat. Now you have an "official" wooden nickel-lucky you.

  6. Now that I have been successful, Glo saw the pics and is pea green with envy. Wishes she could go to Dear Crossing---wants to know how far away from your place it is----Ellie

  7. OMG .... Ellie .... you should have called me and we could have celebrated your success! Tell Glo that "The Dear Crossing" is about 12 miles away from our house on the way to Thayer Missouri. Thayer's about 20 miles away.

Anyway .... congrats on not giving up!
